The match was also very special for South African debutant Dean Elgar as he played the last international match of his career. Elgar scored a total of 16 runs in his last Test match and scored 14 hundreds throughout his Test career.

The Cape Town Test was a bowler’s match as it finished in a day and a half. A total of 23 wickets fell on day 1 while 10 wickets fell on day 2 until the Indian team won the match. South Africa were impressed by Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah in both innings.

Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah took a six-wicket haul in South Africa’s first and second innings respectively. However, South Africa received a little help during the second innings as they scored the sixth-fastest Test hundred by a South African batsman.

Aiden Markram scored tremendously in 99 balls and helped South Africa take a 78-run lead in the second innings. However, the target of 79 runs was never enough for South Africa to defend, and India eventually won the match by seven wickets.

This was India’s first Test win in Cape Town after 30 years and they also covered the huge loss they suffered after losing the first Test match. India lost the series opener by an innings and 32 runs and slipped to sixth place in the 2023-25 World Test Championship standings.

India has regained its top spot in the points table of the 2023-25 World Test Championship and would like to qualify once again for the final of the premier Test event. The Indian team has qualified for the WTC finals twice but has failed to win a single title.

The Indian team will now play England in their next Test series, which is expected to begin on January 25, 2024 in Hyderabad. England will be led by Ben Stokes, while this will be the first time that Brendon McCullum will be England’s head coach in India.

England have changed the way Test cricket is played since Brendon McCullum took over as the team’s head coach. The Three Lions have been playing Test cricket in a more aggressive and offensive manner, much like white-ball cricket. Since then, England have proven to be brilliant in Test cricket.
