Paarl is set to host the third ODI of IND vs SA on Thursday, December 21. The match starts at 4:30 pm IST, which is 1:00 pm local time. The series is tied 1-1 and the team that wins the match will win the series. India are seeking their first series win in South Africa since Virat Kohli won in 2018.

KL Rahul and company will have a lot of work on their hands to win the series in Paarl. The way they played in the second ODI, the Indian team will need to play much better in the decider to win the series. Shreyas Iyer, who plays good spin, will not be available for the third ODI. He was not available for the second ODI and is busy preparing for the Test series.

Another important change that Inia can think about making is bringing in Yuzvendra Chahal as one of the pacers. Yuzi is a quality spinner and has been out of the Indian team since the Asia Cup last year. He also missed the ODI World Cup and the Australia T20I series. Given how Sanju Samson batted in the second ODI, he can be replaced by Rajat Patidar, who can bat with the same number for India.

South Africa will also have some players unavailable. Ottniel Baartman and Andile Phelukwayo have injury problems and will not be available for the last two games. Nandre Burger turned out to be a winner in the second ODI. He took 3 for 30 and in the process also got an IPL deal with Rajasthan Royals. Being a left-handed pacer worked in his favour, there is a dearth of left-arm pacers in the IPL in general. The hosts may very well back the same team that played the second ODI and back them to win the decider.

South Africa will be led by Aiden Markram who will be one of the batting pillars along with David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen. Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje remain out of the team due to injury problems.

India and South Africa play a three-match ODI series followed by a two-match Test series. The T20I was preparing for next year’s T20 World Cup. India reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022. They lost their league match against South Africa in the campaign. In total, in 93 ODIs, India won 38 matches and South Africa 51. The second ODI victory was the Proteas’ 51st against the Indian team.
