Suryakumar Yadav, on Wednesday (June 12), starred with the bat to propel India to a 7-wicket victory over USA in the 25th game of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Men in Blue took on the co-hosts in the historic match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
It was the first international match between the two teams in all formats. The United States put in a fighting performance but ultimately ended up on the losing side against one of the strongest teams in the competition. When asked to bat first, the US finished their innings with 110 for 7 on a difficult pitch.
With the ball, they started brightly and got India into all sorts of trouble. Left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar dismissed Virat Kohli for a golden duck in the first over before sending back captain Rohit Sharma for 3 in the third over to leave India reeling at 10 for 2.
It was followed by a 29-run tussle between Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav before the former departed for 18 to leave India three down for 39. India were in a fix at the time. However, Suryakumar Yadav stood tall from one end and scored a fifty. He scored an unbeaten 50 off 49 balls and shared an unbeaten 72-run stand with Shivam Dube to take India home.

Suryakumar Yadav had luck on his side as he was given a big respite before playing the match-winning knock. In India’s 13th innings, Netravalkar dropped him when he was batting for just 22 runs.
The right-handed batsman wanted to hit the ball over the infield but ended up mishitting it behind the square. Netravalkar charged towards the ball from the short third man position and also got under the ball in time but ended up dropping it.
And when the American pacer dropped the catch, the cameras moved towards the stands where Suryakumar Yadav’s Devisha Shetty and Rohit Sharma had interesting reactions. Devisha heaved a sigh of relief and was also seen smiling after her husband received the lifeline. However, Rohit Sharma seemed frustrated with his teammate’s shot selection and was seen venting his frustration on him.
