Shubman Gill, however, talked about why he wants to hit at No.3. He noted that with India A, he batted a lot there and noted that hitting at 3 allows the batsman to get a bit more rest between innings. Speaking to the broadcasters, he said:

“In India A games, I hit a lot at No. 3 and 4. They asked me where I wanted to hit in the series and I said I wanted to hit at No. 3 and I think that’s a good position for me. where I want to consolidate. It is always an advantage to play against a new ball. I have that advantage opening up the batting. Hitting at No.3 isn’t much different from opening hitting. You probably get a little more rest between innings.”
Shubman Gill has batted as a starter for most of his international career. He only batted once at No.3, where he managed to score 47 runs against New Zealand.
