Australian captain Alyssa Healy achieved a special milestone for the national team. She became the first Australian player (both men and women) to be a part of all 150 games in the T20I format.
Alyssa Healy achieved the feat during the ongoing third T20I against Indian women at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. When she took the field, she became the most capped Australian player in the shortest format of the game.
Alyssa Healy is having a great game so far as team captain. She won the toss and put the Indian women into bat first. She made brilliant bowling changes and her team repaid her faith.
India women got off to a great start with the bat, thanks to Shefali Varma (26) and Smriti Mandhana (29). They added 39 runs to the opening partnership, but the Australian women made a sensational comeback, thanks to the heroics of the bowlers and the brilliant captaincy of Alyssa Healy.
Australia women picked wickets in quick succession and reduced India women to 66/4. But a strong knock from Richa Ghosh (34) ensured that the Indian women posted a competitive total on the board. Her knock along with Amanjot Kaur’s (17*) cameo at the end propelled the hosts to a total of 147 runs.
The Australian bowlers were right. Annabel Sutherland was the team’s best bowler with figures of 2/12. Georgia Wareham also contributed two scalps, while Megan Schutt and Ashleigh Gardner bagged a scalp each.
Alyssa Healy then provided a great start with the bat for the Australian women. The captain played some superb shots at the start of the innings and put pressure on the Indian women with his batting. He ensured that the visitors had an opening partnership of over 80 runs.
Alyssa Healy scored 38 runs off 26 balls before Pooja Vastrakar removed her. But the referee had no conclusive evidence and she survived. The opening batsman then scored a magnificent half-century in his 150th game. The way he played has almost sealed the match for the team.
The series between both teams is tied 1-1 so far. However, with the kind of display Australia Women have shown in the game, they are all set to win the series by a 2-1 margin.
