India will be eyeing their long-awaited dream of clinching an ICC trophy in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 this year. The ICC tournament will be held in June 2024 in the West Indies and the United States. The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will witness a battle between 20 teams.
There are four groups of 5 teams each in the league. India is part of Group A with teams like Pakistan, Ireland, Canada and the United States in their group. India will play four matches during the group stage.
India will begin their journey in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 5 with a match against Ireland. Later, they will also face Pakistan in their next clash on June 19. Their last game will be against Canada on June 15. Interestingly, India will play all four of its matches in the United States during the group stage. India lost the 2023 ODI World Cup to Australia
Although India is the highest-ranked T20I team in the ICC rankings, their chances of winning the 2024 T20 World Cup are doubtful. Their failure to win the 2023 ODI World Cup at home was a great sadness to many fans and critics. The last time India won an ICC title was in 2013, when they crushed England to win the Champions Trophy.
However, India has one T20 World Cup trophy to its name. In the first edition of the tournament in 2007, the men in blue beat Pakistan in the final to take the title. However, once again they have failed to win it.
In the previous edition of the T20 World Cup 2022, India faced a humiliating 10-wicket defeat against England in the semi-final. Also, India lost the WTC final and the ODI World Cup final to Australia. Therefore, India losing the final or semi-finals in ICC events is a big worry for the team.

Rohit Sharma most likely to lead India in ICC T20 World Cup 2024
Rohit Sharma is most likely to return as T20I skipper for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Notably, vice-captain Hardik Pandya will be out of action for the next few months due to injury. Therefore, Sharma is the best man available to lead the team in T20Is this year.
India will play only three T20I matches before the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. India will face Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series this month. Later, they will face England in a five-match Test series from January to March 2024.

Later, Indian players will be busy with IPL 2024 from March to May. Recently, India toured South Africa for a multi-format series. During the tour, India won the ODI series 2-1. The T20I and Test series ended in a 1-1 draw.
