India squad announced for T20I series against Bangladesh, Mayank Yadav chosen

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday (August 28) announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. Suryakumar Yadav will captain the team while pace sensation Mayank Yadav has received his first call-up.

India will face Bangladesh in the three-match T20I series. The first match of the series will be played on October 6 in Gwalior, followed by the second match on October 9 in New Delhi. The last match of the series will be played in Hyderabad on October 12.

The trial players have rested before the hectic schedule and the team has seen some of the players be called up to the team. Abhishek Sharma, who missed the Sri Lanka T20Is, was included in the squad, along with Rinku Singh, while Ruturaj Gaikwad was dropped.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been one of the most consistent players in the team, and the fact that he has not made it into the T20I squad is a big surprise. He also had a great outing with the bat in the 2024 Duleep Trophy and was expected to be in the team.

Mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy, who last played for India in the 2021 T20 World Cup, has been called up to the squad. He has been a consistent performer for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL and was expected to be in the team soon.

Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma are the two wicketkeeper-batsmen picked by the BCCI in the Indian team for the three-match T20I series. Ishan Kishan was expected to return as several reports also suggested but it was not the case as he is still on the sidelines having been released from his contract with the BCCI.

All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has also been included in the team. He was named in the Indian squad for the five-match series against Zimbabwe. But at the last minute he was ruled out due to injury and Shivam Dube was included in his place.

BCCI has also named a host of all-rounders in the team. Hardik Pandya, along with Shivam Dube, Riyan Parag and Washington Sundar, are also in the team. Player Ravi Bishnoi is also featured in the 15-member squad for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh.

Along with Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Yadav, Harshit Rana has also been included in the team. Singh will lead the bowling attack along with two young fast bowlers. The trio could be pivotal to the team for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be a home World Cup.
