THE LOWDOWN

INDIA

India have come from behind to lead this series by two games to one heading into the fourth Test in Ranchi. Once again, Yashasvi Jaiswal was the hero with a second double-century of the series, helping India set England a formidable victory target of 557. Ravindra Jadeja’s five-wicket-haul then helped his side run through the tourists, sealing a 434-run win, India’s biggest in Test match history. Again, changes will be made for the fourth Test, with fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah set to be rested. KL Rahul remains out through injury, as does Virat Kohli, who recently celebrated the birth of his second child. Despite missing a portion of the third Test due to a family medical emergency, Ravichandran Ashwin remains available for selection.

ENGLAND

England’s miserable showing in the third Test was by far and away their worst all-round performance under the captaincy of Ben Stokes. Only opening Ben Duckett can hold his head up high following a magnificent 153 in England first innings. But the England bowling attack couldn’t handle the force of India’s batting, conceding scores of 445 and 430/4 respectively. The fourth innings saw an embarrassing collapse, leading to England’s worst Test defeat since 1934. In response, the tourists have made two changes to their playing XI for this fourth Test. Both are within the bowling unit, Ollie Robinson and Shoaib Bashir replacing Mark Wood and Rehan Ahmed.

THE PREDICTION

As dominant as India were in the third Test and despite such a poor showing from England, it would be foolish to write off Ben Stokes and his men, who have a knack of surprising people when they least expecting it. India will be overwhelming favourites to seal a series victory but surely a strong response from England is pending, their dressing room normally thriving when their backs are pinned to the wall. They’ve already proven capable of beating the hosts, having done so in the first Test and the absence of Bumrah should be felt on the Indian side. It may well prove a shrewd play to back an upset in Ranchi, so consider utilising the double chance market and backing this series to remain the balance with a draw or an England win.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – DRAW/ENGLAND
