India will take on Bangladesh in a T20I series later this year. The India vs Bangladesh T20I series will consist of three T20I clashes between both teams. During Bangladesh’s tour of India 2024, India and Bangladesh will play two Test matches and three T20I matches.

India will field a powerful team against Bangladesh as they lost an ODI series against them in 2022, and cannot take them lightly. The Test series will be played first in September, followed by the T20I series in October.

The first T20I match between India and Bangladesh will be played on October 6 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. The next two matches are scheduled to be played in Delhi (Arun Jaitley Stadium) and Hyderabad (Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium). The second and third matches will be played on October 9 and 12.

A look at the history of the T20I between India and Bangladesh

The rivalry between India and Bangladesh in the shortest format dates back to June 2009 when India took on Bangladesh for the first time in the ICC T20 World Cup. So far, both the Asian giants have played a total of 14 T20I matches.

India and Bangladesh also met in the previous T20 World Cup in 2022 where the Men in Blue stunned the Men in Green in Australia. The most memorable matches are the ICC T20 clash in 2016 and the Nidahas Trophy final where India secured a heartbreaking victory on the last ball.

If we look at the head-to-head records between IND and BAN, Bangladesh has defeated India just once in T20I while India has an impressive record with 13 wins. Recently, India and Bangladesh also met in the 2024 T20 World Cup and Rohit Sharma & Boys comfortably crushed them by 50 runs.

India’s squad for Bangladesh T20 2024

Openers: Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma

Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are likely to be part of the Test series and hence will be part of the ODI series as well.

Rohit Sharma has retired from T20Is and Jaiswal and Gill are the next batsmen in the list. Abhishek Sharma may also get a chance after his impressive performance in Zimbabwe.

Middle order batsmen: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Rinku Singh

Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh will be part of the middle order. Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh are the two standout players in the shortest format and there is no reason for the selectors to overlook them. Yadav was chosen as the new captain in the last series and will get another chance.

Goalkeepers: Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson

Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are the favourites for the India vs Bangladesh T20I series. It is noteworthy that Rishabh Pant is a regular wicket-keeper in Tests and will be picked for the T20I series. The other one can be Sanju Samson as KL Rahul is not picked for the T20Is.

All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel

Hardik Pandya is India’s most important player and he proved it during the 2024 T20 World Cup. He showed good form in the IND vs SL T20I series. After the dismissal of Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel has emerged as a crucial member of the team.

Spinners: Kuldeep Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi

As for the bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi could be picked for the series. Notably, Kuldeep Yadav picked 8 wickets in a Test match in Bangladesh in 2022 and will also be a part of the T20I series. Ravi Bishnoi is a powerful bowler in T20Is, he provides more variation as he is a right-hander.

Pacers: Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Shami

Key players like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are expected to be part of the Test series and will therefore play in the T20I series as well. The other two could be Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh.

It is worth noting that all of them have not withdrawn from the shorter format and are expected to take part in the test series. As per the latest reports, they are part of the series and can also be picked in the T20I squad.
