Mumbai Indians, on Thursday (April 11), thrashed Royal Challengers Bengaluru by seven wickets to register their second win in IPL 2024. Chasing 197, the five-time champions crossed the finish line in less than 16 overs thanks to a fiery half century from Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav.
Kishan scored a 23-ball fifty and shared a 101-run stand with Rohit Sharma in less than nine overs for the first wicket. Akash Deep broke the stands by dismissing Kishan for 69. Rohit was next to go after scoring 38 before Suryakumar scored a fifty off 17 balls. He scored 52 runs off 19 balls and was returned by Vijaykumar Vyshak. Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma took MI to the line in just 15.3 balls.
Early in the game, half-centuries from Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar and Dinesh Karthik helped RCB recover from a poor start and post a grand total of 196/8 in the allotted 20 overs.
Asked to bat first, RCB were reeling at 23/2 in the fifth over after losing the wickets of Virat Kohli and Will Jacks. Du Plessis and Rajat Patidar then steadied the ship by sharing an 82-run stand for the third wicket. Gerald Coetzee finished the stand by dismissing Patidar for 50 before Shreyas Gopal returned Glenn Maxwell for a duck to reduce RCB to 108 for 4.
Du Plessis was the next to fall. He shared another crucial 45-run stand with Karthik before being dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah for 61. Karthik, on the other hand, stayed on till the end, smashing an unbeaten 53 in just 23 balls to take his team to a big total. For MI, Bumrah starred in the ball, taking five wickets for just 21 runs in his four overs.
