IPL 2024: Revealed: Who will qualify for playoffs if RCB vs CSK match is dragged due to rain

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings in their final league match of the ongoing IPL 2024. It will be a do-or-die game for the Bengaluru-based team.

CSK is currently at the third place in the points table with 14 points from 13 matches. On the other hand, RCB is fifth with 12 points from 13 matches. In case CSK wins the next match, they will finish the league stage with 16 points, while RCB will finish with 12.

If RCB wins the match, both they and CSK will finish with 14 points and will have to depend on other results to secure a playoff spot. While a win against CSK may not be enough for RCB to qualify for the playoffs, a loss will surely knock them out of IPL 2024.

Qualification scenario if RCB vs CSK is eliminated:

RCB will have to get two points in their last league match to stay alive in the tournament. However, their hopes could be dashed by rain. The weather forecast for Bengaluru is not at all promising for RCB and there are high chances that the next match will be lost.

The much-awaited match is scheduled to take place on May 18 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that Bengaluru is expected to experience “spells of rain or thundershowers” this week.

The IMD has forecast “partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers” for Bengaluru from May 14 to 17. For May 18 and 19, the weather department forecast “partly cloudy skies with a chance of rain or storm.” For the city.

Both RCB and CSK will hope that the rain stays away and they get a chance to strengthen their playoff chances. However, there is a chance that the rain could play a spoilsport role and if the match does not produce any result, CSK will end up with 15 points while RCB will end their league phase with 13.

With 13 points, RCB will be eliminated from IPL 2024, while CSK will have to depend on other results. They will need Sunrisers Hyderabad or Lucknow Super Giants to not finish with more than 15 points. Both SRH and LSG have two games left and can finish with 18 and 16 points respectively if they win the remaining games.
