Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Anuj Rawat spoke about his finisher’s role in the just-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He said it came naturally to him and he did a good job for the team.
Anuj Rawat played a decent role for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. Last year he was given a role to open the innings and scored a half century. But he was benched when the team promoted Virat Kohli as the starter along with Faf du Plessis.

But this year, he was given a role as a finisher, and he did well. Although he didn’t have continuous chances, in all the games he played in the order, he played decently. He also came in as the team’s goalkeeper when Dinesh Karthik was in trouble.

Anuj Rawat’s best came in the game against Rajasthan Royals when she scored 29 runs off 11 balls and led her team to a grand total, ultimately helping Royal Challengers Bangalore win over the opposition.

Anuj Rawat said that he practiced the final role in the preparatory camps and is glad to have done well for the team. He pointed out that the team’s management showed confidence in him, which helped him. Speaking to Sportskeeda, he said:

“I have practiced in the preparation fields and also in the preseason in the middle order. So I felt like it came naturally to me and I did it well. I started for RCB in my first season and from the beginning it was clear that they wanted to see me start.
“So when the team management supports you and shows confidence in you, you automatically seem more confident in your own game. When you’re on and off the team, it can be a bit difficult to deal with as a player. However, you have to be mentally strong and keep looking forward.”
IPL 2023: “I am open to any role,” says Anuj Rawat
Anuj Rawat went on to say that he is open to playing any role for the team, stressing that as a youngster, he needs to adapt to whatever role he is given. He explained:
“I am open to any role (at RCB). You try 100 percent to fit into any role and when you play for such a big team, you have to be open to adapting to any position.”
Anuj Rawat scored 91 runs in the 9 matches he played in IPL 2023. It remains to be seen whether RCB will back him for the upcoming season or not.
