IPL 2025 auction: GT and SRH suffer as Mallika Sagar makes shocking mistakes

Auctioneer Mallika Sagar did not have a very good day at work on Sunday, November 24, as she made quite a few mistakes in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.

A couple of mistakes by Mallika Sagar led to Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) suffering losses in the auction.

IPL 2025 auction: Mallika Sagar’s big mistakes revealed

Mallika Sagar became the first female auctioneer in the history of the Indian Premier League in the 2024 edition of the event, and was also chosen to do the job at the IPL 2025 Auction.

She made huge mistakes in the ongoing auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and fans expressed their frustration over the same through social media channels.

One of the biggest mistakes Mallika Sagar made was when they sold Jos Buttler. England’s star wicketkeeper-batsman was signed by the Gujarat Titans for Rs 15.75 crore after a bidding war between Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants.

However, the Gujarat Titans could have paid INR 25 lakh less for Buttler, had Mallika Sagar not made a mistake. Notably, he had a lack of concentration as the Titans were at INR 15.50 crore when he asked LSG if they were interested in increasing the amount to 15.75. The Super Giants dropped out of the race, but she mistakenly said Rs 15.75 million instead of Rs 15.50 million, and Buttler was sold for Rs 15.75 million.

Another big mistake made by Mallika Sagar was during the bidding process of Abhinav Manohar. The explosive batsman entered the mega auction with a base price of INR 30 lakh.

RCB initiated the bid for him and CSK immediately intervened. The two franchises were locked in an intense bidding war and after RCB pulled out, in came the Gujarat Titans.

Later, Sunrisers Hyderabad joined the bidding war for INR 2.40 crore and when the bid reached INR 2.80 crore, CSK backed out. Abhinav Manohar was declared sold to SRH for INR 2.80 crore and the hammer fell.

However, the bid was opened again at INR 3 crore when Mallika Sagar said that the Kolkata Knight Riders had raised their paddle and she could not see it. SRH then bid INR 20 lakh more and finally acquired Manohar for INR 3.20 crore.

Very happy to have Jos Buttler by our side – Parthiv Patel

Newly appointed batting and assistant coach Parthiv Patel was delighted to have Jos Buttler in the team. He said:

“I am very happy to have Jos Buttler on our side. He can hit anywhere, he can also stay and he can also help Shubman (Gill). We wanted to buy our no. 1 bowler and no. 1 hitter from the marquee set and we have both.”

Additionally, GT Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki expressed his satisfaction with the way they were building the team in the auction.

“We are very happy with the team we have. There are a small number of players in these first two sets and we have done our part, according to our plan. The team is starting to take shape, but we still have to fill spaces. And be smart. In fact, some very good players will also come tomorrow,” Solanki said.

That? RCB released Abhinav Manohar at 3.2 cr – Dodda Ganesh

Former Indian national cricket team player Dodda Ganesh was left furious with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru for not going all out to acquire the services of explosive batsman Abhinav Manohar. He took his official name X to write:

“What? RCB let Abhinav Manohar go for 3.2 crs. They were happy to bid for Venky Iyer up to 23 crs.

“Don’t tell me Iyer is an all-rounder. He has just bowled in 9 innings of the 50 IPL matches he has played. He is just 3 weeks old and conceded close to 11 rpo. RCB #IPLAuction2025.”
