Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Devon Conway has dropped a big hint about the franchise retaining him for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He came up with a one-word answer that all but confirmed his future with the five-time IPL champions.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is all set for a grand auction and hence, the teams will have major changes ahead of the upcoming edition of the league. It will certainly be a huge loss for some of the franchises as they have the services of some of the best players.
One such franchise will be Chennai Super Kings. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side currently has some of the biggest match-winners in the squad. Along with the captain, they have Ravindra Jadeja, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Shivam Dube, Matheesha Pathirana, Mateehsa Theekshana and Mustafizur Rahman in their ranks.
New Zealand national cricket team batsman Devon Conway also figures on that list as he has performed well for the franchise in the league and has been among the most consistent batsmen. Therefore, Chennai Super Kings will have to make some tough decisions related to retentions before heading into the mega auction.
But amid speculations about the players’ retention, Devon Conway has given a major hint about his future with the Chennai Super Kings. During the first Test match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, the New Zealander was asked by a fan whether he will play for the franchise next year or not.
The New Zealand star batsman responded with a single word, “I hope so.” There have been several reports that franchises will be able to retain 6 players before the auction and also that the team will be getting RTM. So, there is a high chance that he may be able to retain him.

Devon Conway became part of the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022
Devon Conway became a part of Chennai Super Kings in the mega IPL 2022 auction and has since been a consistent batsman for the team in the league. In his first season, he played 7 matches and made 252 runs which included three half-centuries.
Devon Conway was the main reason why Chennai Super Kings won the Indian Premier League in 2023 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. He formed a formidable opening duo with Ruturaj Gaikwad and the duo helped the team win their fifth title in the league.
Conway finished the season with 672 runs from 16 matches at an average and strike rate of 51.69 and 139.71 with nine half-centuries to his name. He also had a brutal innings in the final over which helped Chennai Super Kings chase down the big target against Gujarat Titans.
The 33-year-old missed the 2024 season due to injury and in his absence, CSK struggled to form a reliable starting pair. Given that he had a massive impact on the team in the two seasons, it won’t be a surprise if the team retains him.
