Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer could feature in the mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. As reported by ESPNCricinfo, the right-hander is reportedly considering leaving his current franchise.
Shreyas Iyer’s name has been grabbing a lot of headlines, especially now that the retention deadline is around the corner. The batsman’s name has been floating in the news as there have been many rumors suggesting that the team captain might leave the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Shreyas Iyer receives mega offer from rival franchise
A new set of reports in ESPNCricinfo suggested that although it is not confirmed, Shreyas Iyer will be moving out. But the Indian national cricket team’s batsman has been thinking a lot about participating in the IPL 2025 auction. This comes after the batsman received a mega offer from a rival franchise.
This is a big development because Shreyas Iyer guided Kolkata Knight Riders to the title victory of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The right-hander played a pivotal role for the team as a leader and was also decent with the bat for the team in the tournament.
Shreyas Iyer joined Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of Indian Premier League 2022
Iyer joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and was named the team’s captain. However, the first season did not go as expected, as the team was among the franchises facing an early exit from the tournament.
Iyer then missed IPL 2023 due to a back injury and in his absence, Nitish Rana was named lead. But it was a similar story for the franchise as they failed to get going and once again failed to qualify for the tournament playoffs.
Iyer then made a dazzling comeback in IPL 2024 as under him, Kolkata Knight Riders were the most dominant team of the tournament. He also played a vital role for the team with the bat as he scored 351 runs in 14 games. He also slammed two half-centuries.
KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant will also feature in IPL 2025 auction
Apart from Shreyas Iyer’s development, there have also been reports suggesting that big names KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are likely to participate in the auction. Reports claim that Delhi Capitals want to retain Pant but are not willing to hand over the leadership role to him.
On the other hand, KL Rahul had a meeting with Lucknow Super Giants officials. However, the Indian National Cricket Team batsman had not committed to accepting the retention offer if it were made. It was recently learned that Royal Challengers Bengaluru have shown interest in both the batsmen.
All 10 IPL franchises have been given a deadline to finalize their player retention list by October 31. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly planning to organize the IPL mega auction in the last week of November. However, the BCCI is yet to make a formal announcement regarding the date and venue.
