The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has begun to take its first steps as preparations for the tournament are already underway, though the event is still a long way off. But even before that, the focus will be on the auction, which will be a mega auction this time around.

The IPL 2025 auction is just around the corner. As per IANS reports, it has been learnt that the bidding event for the upcoming edition of the league will be held in This year, at the end of November or beginning of December, the location of the event has not yet been decided.

Reports also claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will also release the rules for retentions, including the Right to Match (RTM), in the coming days. There have been several speculations on how many players the team governing body will allow franchises to retain.

With the mega auction scheduled for IPL 2025, there were reports claiming that the BCCI would allow franchises to retain 6 players along with three RTMs. Though there has been no official confirmation, many have been speculating about it.

But with the dates for the 2025 edition already out and the BCCI having decided to release the retention policy, franchises would be keen to plan their strategies. Speaking about the auction dates and rules and regulations, a source close to the governing body said:

The IPL 2025 auction will be held in late November or early December this year. The rules will be announced in a couple of days.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings became the latest team to announce their head coach for IPL 2025. Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has been appointed as the head coach of the team.

Recently, Lucknow Super Giants also announced Zaheer Khan as their mentor while Rahul Dravid joined Rajasthan Royals as head coach. Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals are also expected to make announcements soon.
