South Africa recently named a 15-member squad for their upcoming three-match home T20I series against Pakistan, scheduled to be played from December 10-14. The news was confirmed through an official press release.

However, coach Rob Walter has decided to appoint a new leader for the team in the absence of Aiden Markram, who is currently with the Proteas Test team playing against Sri Lanka. Speaking about the decision, Coach Walter said: “In Aiden’s absence, Heinrich will lead the team. He is a very experienced player with a great understanding and reading of the game. We look forward to using him in this role following his previous experiences in 2021.

Star Proteas players to return in ODI match against Pakistan

After the completion of the three-match SA vs PAK T20I stage, the teams will next face each other in as many ODIs, starting from December 17.

Aiden Markram, along with all-format players Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada and Tristan Stubbs, will be forced to skip the T20I series due to just a one-day gap between the Sri Lanka Test series and the leg. Pakistan T20I.

However, they are set to join the team for the ODl series against Pakistan as part of their preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
