The IPL (Indian Premier League) is getting bigger and better every year. The league will enter its 17th edition in 2024 with 10 teams fighting for the title once again.
The current value of the league’s media rights stands at $6.2 billion (approximately Rs 48,000 crore) for five years starting 2022. Even by this estimate, the IPL is the second most valued league after the National League Football (NFL). American sports has closed a $110 billion media deal over 11 years starting last year.
Indian Premier League (IPL) President Arun Dhumal spoke at the RCB Innovation Lab leaders’ meeting in Bengaluru about the growth and expansion of the IPL over the years and its impact on global sports.
“If I have to look at how it has gone in the last 15 years and if I have to go by estimates going forward, we expect the (IPL) media rights to reach close to $50 billion around 2043,” he said. Dhumal. while speaking at RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet India.

Furthermore, she expected the women’s IPL to rise in the global expansion charts and also spoke about the inclusion of cricket in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
“Now that cricket is becoming a part of the Olympics and the WPL is taking it to a different level for women’s cricket, I see a lot of hope and light at the end of the tunnel,” Dhumal said.

He concluded by talking about the brand that IPL has created over the years and how it has united the diverse country of India.
“The IPL is the most watched cricket league in the world. Personally, I think IPL is the best Make in India brand we can imagine after independence. We are a very diverse country in terms of states, cultures and languages spoken. But this is a platform (IPL) that is so well-entrenched that you can show India to the world,” he said.
