India batsman Shreyas Iyer did not take the field on Day 4 of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2023-24 final between Mumbai and Vidarbha. According to him Mumbai team managerThe batsman experienced back pain and was not fit enough to take the field.

Shreyas Iyer has become the hot soup of Indian cricket. Ever since he was released from BCCI’s one-year contract, he has been in the news. The batsman was dropped from the contract because he did not agree to play in the Ranji Trophy and that did not go down well with the governing body.

After being dropped from the last three Tests against England, Shreyas Iyer was told by the BCCI and the team management to play in the Ranji Trophy. The batter did not play because he said he had back discomfort. But the NCA gave him a clear signal and told the BCCI that he had no problems.

Shreyas Iyer was then seen attending the pre-season camp with the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead and this irked the BCCI which saw them drop the batsman from the one-year contract. Then some reports emerged revealing the other side of the story, favoring the batsman.

Reports claimed that Shreyas Iyer has been suffering from back pain since the ICC World Cup 2023 and took painkillers during the event to be available for all the games. The right-hander then left for the KKR camp to increase his workload as back pain has been troubling him for a while now.

With Shreyas Iyer missing Day 4 of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2023-24 final between Mumbai and Vidarbha, many believe that the reports favoring the batsmen were true. The batsman was the backbone of the team in the ODIs and Tests last year. Meanwhile, the Mumbai team manager told Sportstar that the batsman is now fine after suffering back pain on Day 4.

Shreyas Iyer gave his best for the team in the ICC World Cup 2023. He scored more than 500 runs in the tournament and was one of the main reasons why India reached the final of the World Cup by winning 10 games in a row. He also scored a century in the semi-final against New Zealand.

Shreyas Iyer joined the Mumbai team for the Ranji Trophy in the semi-final against Tamil Nadu. The batsman, however, could not make a mark in his comeback during the semi-final. Things got even worse for him when he failed in the first innings of the ongoing final against Vidarbha.

Shreyas Iyer then made sure to step up for his team in the final innings. The batsman exuded class and played a magnificent innings. He batted with an offensive mind and missed his well-deserved century by just 5 runs.

Shreyas Iyer finished with 95 innings off 111 balls. He also hit 10 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. His knock helped Mumbai post a total of 418 runs on the board and set a target of over 500 runs. Coming into day 5, Mumbai need 5 wickets to win while Vidarbha are 290 runs away.
