Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket on Saturday, August 28. He retired from all formats of the game after having played for the Indian team for over 10 years.
Shikhar Dhawan, who last played international cricket for India in 2022, decided to hang up his boots after not receiving a national call-up for nearly two years. Shikhar Dhawan retired from international cricket after scoring the most runs for India in the 2013 Champions Trophy, 2015 ODI World Cup, 2017 Champions Trophy and 2018 Asia Cup.
Shikhar Dhawan’s career includes several notable achievements, including being the Player of the Tournament at the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and amassing over 6,793 runs in One Day Internationals at an impressive average of 44.1 and a strike rate of 91.35.
The left-handed opening batsman bid farewell to the sport with over 10,000 international runs to his name, most of them in ODI format, including 17 centuries and 39 half-centuries.

However, days after announcing his retirement from the game, Shikhar Dhawan announced that he will play in the upcoming season of the Legends League Cricket (LLC). Now, ILT20 officials are looking to rope him in. ILT20 CEO David White spoke about the possibility of Dhawan playing in the tournament.
The third season of the DP World International T20 League is scheduled to run from January 11 to February 9, 2025. Meanwhile, earlier this year, the league became the first partner-organised T20 league to be granted List A status by the ICC. The month-long tournament will feature 34 matches across the UAE’s three cricket venues – Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
ILT20 CEO David White spoke on his recent visit to Mumbai about the possibility of the former Indian left-hander joining the league. To clarify his view, he said that there have been talks in that direction but nothing official can be said on the matter yet.

“Yes, I think there have been some inquiries in that regard, but that’s only happened in the last 24 hours, so I have nothing to report on that, but there is certainly interest.
“But we have no idea whether he will continue to play cricket at that level or not, but as soon as we heard the news, we made some enquiries but so far we have not had any further information. We are just trying to find out whether he has completely retired from cricket or not. I am not going to hide that there is an interest, of course,” he said, as quoted by TOI.
Shikhar Dhawan announced the news of his retirement on his social media, which created a sensation on the internet. He reviewed his international career and said that he is retiring with countless memories and gratitude.
