Indian national cricket team captain Rohit Sharma made his stance very clear after the devastating home test series loss against the New Zealand national cricket team.
Rohit Sharma said he won’t overreact but will definitely have conversations with “certain people” about the team management’s expectations of them.
New Zealand beat India in the first and second Tests to seal the series
The Black Caps stunned Rohit Sharma & Co. in the Bengaluru Test by 8 wickets before winning the Pune Test by 113 runs to seal the series. There is still one match left in Wankhede, and it will be important for India to get a win to strengthen their case for the ICC World Test Championship final.
However, before the Wankhede Test, India’s confidence was completely shattered by the Kiwis as the visitors ended the hosts’ 18-series winning streak in home Tests, which began in the 2012-13 season. Notably, no other team had won more than ten consecutive Test series at home and India’s defeat against New Zealand ended a historic run.
Heading into the series, New Zealand had a terrible record against India, having won only two Test matches – in Nagpur in 1969 and in Mumbai in 1988. But they have now achieved their first Test series victory against India in Indian soil. This was also New Zealand’s first victory in a bilateral series away from home in the history of the World Test Championship.
I was watching TV, out of the 54 Test matches, we won 42 i.e. almost 80 per cent – Rohit Sharma
Speaking to reporters after the match, Rohit Sharma said he does not want to put pressure on the players by reacting differently and boasted of India’s domestic dominance in the last decade.
“I just said it, because of these three sessions, I am not going to react differently. Look at the number of games we have won in India. I was watching TV, out of the 54 Test matches, we have won 42, that’s almost 80 percent. More good things have happened than bad. I don’t want to react so much that the guys within the team start to think that something different is happening. “It’s a type of environment where people start to doubt. itself”.
“For 12 years we had a great run, which meant we were doing a lot of good things. Just because we lost this series, I don’t think there’s anything we should do differently or talk about differently, but yes, we need to find ways to get out of those. situations in which we were put under pressure.
“I don’t need to open a medical kit and start doing different things. It’s important to understand that this team has done some pretty good things in the past,” he added.
But you need to have a calm conversation with certain people – Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma further stated that he will talk to certain players in the team about their situation at the moment but will not review their innings to identify errors.
“You don’t need to overreact. But you need to have a calm conversation with certain people and let them know where they stand and what, as a team, we demand from them,” Rohit said.
“I don’t think it’s necessary to force them to sit in a team room one on one and go over their input and tell them this is what they should do. I don’t think this is the right forum to do that.”
Furthermore, Rohit Sharma revealed that they were quite sure of chasing the target of 359 runs on the Pune ground but continuous pressure did not allow them to do so.
“We came out thinking we could pursue that goal, but continued pressure from both sides meant we couldn’t respond to that challenge.“yes,” Rohit said.
