“It’s important…” – Rohit Sharma finally reveals his leadership secrets

Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the T20 World Cup last month, ending the ICC title drought for India. In fact, this was the second T20 World Cup title won by India, after 17 years.

Rohit Sharma, who has played in every edition of the T20 World Cup, became the first player to win the title as both a player and captain. He led the team to the semi-final of the 2022 T20 World Cup but lost to England.

He also lost the 2023 WTC final and the ODI World Cup final before finally tasting success as Indian cricket captain with victory in the T20 World Cup.

Speaking on The Aldar Experts podcast, Rohit Sharma shared some of his leadership tips that have helped him become the successful captain he is today.

“I think it’s important for a leader to try to lead from the front, set an example for the rest of his colleagues and teammates. And for me, it’s always been important to conduct myself in a way that I try to set an example for my colleagues. It’s not just about what you do on the field, but also what you do off the field,” Rohit said about captaincy and leadership.

He also spoke about treating the players in the team like brothers. Many young players including Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have often spoken about Rohit’s elder brother nature towards them whenever they talk about him. They said that he treats everyone equally and is the elder brother within the team.

“And I treat them like family, like brothers, because even though they are part of this team, they share the same responsibility and the same involvement in the team, to be part of that team. So, you have to make them feel at home, you have to make them feel that they are welcome here,” added Rohit Sharma.

Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have retired from the T20I format after India’s T20 World Cup win. Rohit still has unfinished business as captain as he is keen on winning an ODI World Cup and a World Test Championship as captain as well. Team India is currently leading the WTC points table. They have now played two WTC finals in 2021 and 2023, unfortunately losing both.

Rohit Sharma urgently wanted after T20 World Cup glory

Rohit, after winning the T20 World Cup, was visibly very emotional and spoke about how much he wanted to win this title for India.

“I wanted this so badly. It’s very difficult to put into words because it was that moment,” Rohit said in an emotional tone after India’s T20 World Cup victory.

He is currently on a break from the game and was also seen at Wimbledon. There are reports that he and Virat Kohli might also be rested for the series against Sri Lanka.
