Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were key to India’s victory in the T20 World Cup last month. While Rohit finished with 257 runs, the second-highest haul in the tournament, Kohli played a crucial 76-run knock in the final.

Both the senior cricketers announced their retirement from the T20I format after India’s T20 World Cup victory. This was India’s second T20 World Cup title, 17 years after winning the first title in 2007.

This was also India’s first ICC title in over a decade and the first for Rohit Sharma as captain after the defeat in the WTC 2023 final and the ODI World Cup final. The race is on in the Indian T20I squad to replace the veterans and some promising names are emerging after the Zimbabwe series.

Former Indian spinner Amit Mishra has made some shocking revelations about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Mishra played under Kohli’s captaincy between 2015 and 2017. He spoke about the change in behaviour he noticed in Kohli after becoming the captain.

Talking about his relationship with Rohit, Mishra mentioned that he and the current India captain share a very jovial and friendly bond dating back to the latter’s early days in cricket, but at the same time, he doesn’t expect the same from Kohli. Mishra also insisted that due to Kohli’s changed nature, he was left with fewer friends in the Indian team.

Virat Kohli has fewer friends than Amit Mishra

“Not everyone, to be honest. I’m not going to lie. As a cricketer, I respect him a lot, but I don’t share the same equation with him as before. Why does Virat have fewer friends? His nature and Rohit’s nature are different. I’ll tell you the best thing about Rohit. When I met him on the first day and when I meet him today, he is the same person. So, will you relate more with him or someone who changes according to the situation?” Amit Mishra told Shubhankar Mishra on his show.

We have maintained that relationship: Amit Mishra on Rohit Sharma

“I have not been part of the Indian team for years. Still, whenever I meet Rohit during the IPL or any other event, he is always joking with me. I don’t need to think what he will think. We joke around with each other. He is at the top, but we still maintain that relationship. He is the captain, he has won the World Cup and five IPL titles,” he further said about Rohit Sharma.

The former Indian pacer played 22 Test matches in his career, nine of them under Kohli. He took 33 wickets in those nine matches. However, Mishra very surprisingly admitted that his relationship with Kohli reached a point where both of them stopped talking to each other. He further said that Kohli’s attitude and behaviour changed over time since he became the Indian captain.

“I have seen Virat change a lot. We had almost stopped talking to each other. When you get fame and power, you think people approach you with a purpose. I was never one of them. I have known Cheeku since I was 14, when I used to eat samosas and need pizza every night. But there is a big difference between the Cheeku I knew and captain Virat Kohli. Whenever he meets me, he is very respectful, but obviously it is not the same anymore,” concluded Amit Mishra.
