India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has named his favourite Indian captain and it is not MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma. Bumrah is currently enjoying his break after a hectic few months which included the home Test series against England, the IPL 2024 and the 2024 T20 World Cup.
While the Indian team is currently in Sri Lanka for a three-match T20I series and a three-match ODI series, Bumrah has been given time to get fresh and available for the home Test series against Bangladesh in September.
India has some big series and tournaments lined up next year, so the selectors want India’s best player to be in top form and ready to play the big matches.

Jasprit Bumrah picks this player as his favourite Indian captain
During an event organised by The Indian Express, Jasprit Bumrah was asked about his favourite Indian captain. Bumrah has been led by three successful Indian captains in his international career – MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. But the right-hander did not pick the names of any of these greats and instead chose himself.
“My favourite captain has always been me because I have captained a few games. Obviously, there are great captains, but I’m going to carry my name… I’m my favourite captain,” Bumrah said.
Jasprit Bumrah has led India in one Test and two T20Is so far. His debut as India captain came against England on July 22 in a rescheduled Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The 30-year-old also led India in a pair of T20Is against Ireland in Dublin in 2023, where he made his comeback to the team after a long injury.
Jasprit Bumrah greets Rohit Sharma
Bumrah also praised India’s current Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma for his evolution as a captain. He believes that Rohit is accessible to everyone in the team and is a great captain who learns from his mistakes.
“There is a lot to learn from Rohit Sharma and how he has evolved as a captain; he has learnt from his mistakes, he is open to feedback, he is not rigid, he listens to everyone and eventually filters it out. I am grateful and privileged to have played under him for so long,” Bumrah said.
The Indian pace bowler also added that Rohit Sharma treats everyone in the team equally and always makes everyone feel comfortable.
“Rohit Sharma makes the youngsters feel that there are no first and second year players in the team. He doesn’t let them think that this is not their team. He always makes them feel that they are a very important part of this team,” he said.
Bumrah has been playing under Rohit Sharma for a long time. Not just in India, Rohit has been Bumrah’s captain while playing for Mumbai Indians since his IPL debut in 2013. Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah played key roles in Mumbai Indians’ golden era when they won five IPL trophies in eight seasons.
