Indian top-order player Jasprit Bumrah is currently on a break from the game and will return in the home Test season against Bangladesh and New Zealand.

He will lead India’s bowling attack when the Men in Blue travel to Australia later this year. It will be a crucial Test series for India and Bumrah will need to be at his best.

Jasprit Bumrah last played for India in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he picked 15 wickets in the tournament and won the Player of the Series award.

He took 3/14 in the crucial match against Pakistan and helped India win the match defending just 120.

At a recent event, the Indian batsman was asked who was the toughest batter he had bowled to. His response to the question was interesting: he said that he never lets opposition batsmen get into his head as a bowler.

Jasprit Bumrah’s classic response to an important query

“Look, I want to give a good answer but the real factor is that I don’t want anyone to control me in my head because obviously I respect everyone but in my head I say to myself, if I do my job well there is no one in the world that can stop me.

“I look at myself rather than the opponent, so if I say I have control over everything and give myself the best chance, everything else will take care of itself rather than giving the power to the batsman to outscore me,” Bumrah said in his reply while giving an elaborate response.

Bumrah was among the wickets on his last two trips to Australia. In the 2018/19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah took 21 wickets at an average of 17, including a best of 6/33.

In the 2021 series, he took 3 more in three matches before being ruled out of the fourth due to a back injury. In total, Bumrah has taken 32 wickets against Australia in seven Test matches.

Bumrah’s career has already been marred by many serious injuries. He has had a lot of back problems, due to which he missed the 2022 T20 World Cup and also the 2023 IPL.

He returned to the ODI World Cup after skipping the IPL season that year as the ODI World Cup was held in India. He finished the tournament with 20 wickets and played a major role in India reaching the final.

Now, ahead of a grueling Test season for India, Jasprit Bumrah has also been given adequate rest to make a proper comeback in the Test series against Bangladesh.

Mohammed Shami is also expected to return for the home series and together they will be crucial for the away series against Australia. India tops the WTC points table at the moment, followed by Australia.
