Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has surprisingly stated that Virat Kohli is not the most in-form player in the Indian cricket team. Instead, Bumrah opted to pick himself as the most in-form player in the entire team. Bumrah will be in action during India’s upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.

Virat Kohli is known as one of the fittest cricketers of all time. During the early stages of his career, he was in excellent form and maintained his level throughout his career.

Even at 35, Kohli is giving tough competition to the youngsters in the team and also occupies top positions. His performance has also improved over the years, as has his fitness.

Jasprit Bumrah doesn’t think Virat Kohli is the most in-form player in the Indian team

During a recent event, Jasprit Bumrah was asked who was the most in-form player in Team India. But, in a surprising answer, Bumrah chose himself ahead of Virat Kohli. The 30-year-old fast bowler was quick to add that being a fast bowler is not easy in India as it requires a lot of effort.

“I know the answer you are looking for but I would like to say my name because I am a fast bowler. I have been playing for a while now so as you know being a fast bowler and playing in this country in the heat requires a lot of requirements. So I will always promote fast bowlers and I will always carry the name of a fast bowler,” Bumrah said at the event.

Virat Kohli’s contributions to the Indian team in terms of fitness

Although Jasprit Bumrah did not adopt Virat Kohli’s name, Kohli will always be an inspiration for the next generation of cricketers. Under his captaincy, he boosted the fitness culture in the Indian team and helped break the barriers of physical fitness.

Kohli made the Yo-Yo test mandatory during his tenure as captain and made fitness the top priority of the team’s players. As a result, the players focused more on fitness and that helped in raising the standards of the entire team.

Virat Kohli last played an international match during the ODI series on India’s tour of Sri Lanka.

However, he had a forgettable series with the bat as India lost the series 0-2. Before the series against Sri Lanka, Kohli played in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he helped India clinch the title thanks to a Man of the Match award-winning performance in the final.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah has not played any competitive cricket match since the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa. Bumrah had an outstanding tournament and took wickets at crucial intervals. He was adjudged Player of the Tournament for 15 wickets in 8 matches at an average of just 8.26 and an economy rate of 4.17.

Both Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah will be seen together in India’s upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting from September 19 in Chennai.
