Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has given a massive update on Mohammed Shami’s fitness ahead of the South Africa Tests. While speaking to reporters, he revealed that the pacer is likely to be fit for the two-Test series against the Proteas.
Mohammed Shami has been having problems with his ankle since the ICC World Cup 2023 concluded. It was not a real injury but it required medical attention and he also reportedly consulted an orthopedic sports doctor in Mumbai.
“Shami should be fit for the South Africa series,” said Jay Shah while talking to reporters on the sidelines of the WPL 2024 auction.

When the BCCI announced the squad for the series against South Africa. His name did not appear on the white ball teams, but it did appear on the test team. In front of his name was a star, revealing that the pacemaker is currently undergoing medical treatment and its availability is subject to his physical condition.
Mohammed Shami is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA to be in top shape ahead of the South Africa series. He will be crucial for the team coming into the series. If India have to fancy their chances of winning their first Test series on South African soil, he will have to play a very important role.
India will first play a three-match T20I and ODI series against South Africa. After that two-match Test series will be played from December 26 to January 7.
Mohammed Shami finished the 2023 World Cup as the leading wicket-taker
Mohammed Shami was one of the main reasons behind India’s success in the ICC World Cup 2023. He finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets to his name. The pacer did not play the first few matches due to the team combination, but he came into the XI once Hardik Pandya got injured.
Mohammed Shami set the stage on fire as soon as he entered the team. The fast bowler was one of the main reasons why India reached the final. But unfortunately, it didn’t have a fairytale ending as India lost the final. But individually for him it was a sensational performance and he also became India’s leading wicket-taker in the World Cups.
