Joe Root snatches crown from Alastair Cook to become England’s greatest ever with remarkable 33rd Test century

England National Cricket Team batsman Joe Root, 33, has created history with his remarkable performance in the ongoing second Test of the three-match series against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, London.

Joe Root’s form has skyrocketed in recent years in Test cricket and he has carried that over to the Sri Lanka Test series. In the opening clash of the series, he scored 42 and 62* runs respectively to move a step closer to Sachin Tendulkar’s iconic record of most Test runs.

Meanwhile, in the Lord’s Test, he decided to take his performance to another level and batted a number of times. He came out to bat when England was in trouble and despite not getting much support from the other end, he stood in the middle like a wall and scored runs.

Joe Root single-handedly put Sri Lanka on the back foot with his performance and completed his fifty in 84 balls. He didn’t look like stopping there as, after putting in a lot of effort, he reached 99* and then played 12 balls without conceding, before completing a century in the 13th over and celebrating the milestone in style.

Root completed his century off 162 balls and at the time of writing, he was batting at 137* off 193 deliveries and 18 fours. His batting performance helped him create and break all-time records and establish his legacy as England’s greatest Test batsman, surpassing Alastair Cook.
