Jordan Cox set to make Test debut as Jamie Smith says he doesn’t mind losing his place in England XI

England national cricket team’s young batsman Jordan Cox is in line to make his Test debut for the team. It is learned that the wicketkeeper-batsman will play the Test series against the New Zealand national cricket team in the absence of regular wicketkeeper Jamie Smith.

After the ongoing Test series against the Pakistan national cricket team, the England national cricket team will tour New Zealand for the three-match series. The first match will be played on November 28, followed by the second match on December 6. The series will conclude with the third game on December 14.

England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith will miss the Test series against the New Zealand national cricket team. Reports claimed that he will be on paternity leave. He and his partner are expecting their first child in mid-December, with the birth likely to coincide with England’s second or third Test in New Zealand.

Being at the birth of my son is not something I want to miss – Jamie Smith

Jamie Smith himself confirmed that he will miss the test series against New Zealand. He said he didn’t want to miss the birth of his first child. He stated that even if he loses his place on the team, he is fine with it. Speaking to the Daily Mail, he explained:

“Being at the birth of my son is not something I want to miss. Regardless, it will be a memory I will cherish more than any other in cricket, so if I lost my place because of that, so be it.”

Jordan Cox, on the other hand, has been a regular member of the England set-up. He was set to keep the wickets for Essex this summer but suffered a horrific finger fracture in The Hundred and then failed to keep the wickets. But he has been working to keep up with Brendon McCullum in Pakistan.

Jordan Cox made his international debut in England’s T20I series against Australia last month. Reports from ESPNCricinfo claimed that the wicketkeeper-batsman will soon be added to the teams for their upcoming white-ball tour to the Caribbean.

Brendon McCullum talks about Jamie Smith’s absence from the New Zealand Tests

England coach Brendon McCullum has spoken about Jamie Smith’s absence from the New Zealand Tests and said the wicketkeeper-batsman will play the first match and miss the second. He also talked about the possibility of Jordan Cox. He stated:

“That’s life, right? People have kids and we wish them all the best in being there and supporting their partners. At this point, it looks like Jamie will probably play the first role.” [Test in New Zealand] and you may miss the next two. “We’re not totally sure, it depends a little bit on Mother Nature, but we know we have Jordan Cox on the team.”

Jordan Cox recently changed his county team from Kent to Essex. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored four hundreds at an average of 65.57 in his first season in the County Championship for them and made quite a name for himself.

If Jamie comes home, to cancel the order and take the gloves… – Brendon McCullum on Jordan Cox

Brendon McCullum further praised Jordan Cox and said he has a high ceiling in terms of talent. He also mentioned that the wicketkeeper-batsman will make his debut if Jamie Smith misses two matches against New Zealand. He explained:

“He’s infuriatingly good at everything he does, particularly on the golf course. He’s one of those guys that you look at and say has a high ceiling in terms of talent, particularly with the bat in his hand. There’s a lot of potential for “I have the opportunity in New Zealand, if Jamie comes home, to cancel the order and take the gloves.”
