JP Duminy resigns as batting coach of South Africa’s limited overs teams

Duminy has had a lot of success as a batting coach as he played a crucial role in turning South Africa’s batting line-up into a force.

JP Duminy has left his position as batting coach of the South Africa white-ball team. The development was confirmed by the Cricket South Africa (CSA) official, who wrote a detailed post on the platform.

“Cricket South Africa (CSA) announces that JP Duminy has resigned from his position as white-ball batting coach with immediate effect, following a mutual agreement with CSA for personal reasons. JP Duminy, a stalwart of South African cricket, has been a key member of the limited overs coaching staff since his appointment in March 2023.”

Duminy has had a lot of success as a batting coach as he played a crucial role in turning South Africa’s batting line-up into a force. He was with the team when the Proteas reached the semi-final of the 2023 World Cup in India, where they lost to Australia.

But Duminy was not with the team during their run to the 2024 World T20 final, where he left the team due to personal reasons. CSA has also confirmed that it has already begun the process of searching for a replacement for Duminy as batting coach, and will soon announce a new one for that responsibility.

JP Duminy was appointed coach of Sharjah Warrioz earlier this year

Earlier this year, JP Duminy was announced as the head coach of Sharjah Warriorz for the upcoming International T20 League (ILT20) season. When that move was announced, Duminy was serving as batting coach for South Africa’s white-ball teams.

Regarding his coaching experiences, he was also part of the coaching staff of South African national team Boland Rocks and acted as head coach of Paarl Royals in the inaugural SA20 season.

He subsequently left the SA20 role after joining the national team as batting coach. Much like his successful white-ball career, Duminy has had great success as a coach almost everywhere.

From next week, South Africa could be left without a permanent batting coach during the white-ball assignments against Pakistan. That series will also not have several first-choice players currently involved in the Test series against Sri Lanka.
