Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have announced the replacement of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Prasidh Krishna respectively. Both players have been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). Earlier this month, the BCCI confirmed that Prasidh Krishna will not participate in IPL 2024 after undergoing surgery on February 23, 2024 on the left proximal quadriceps tendon.
The board further stated that the bowler would soon resume his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy. This is the second consecutive IPL season that Prasidh Krishna has missed due to injury. He also missed the entire IPL 2023 due to injury. In IPL 2022, he took 19 wickets to help Rajasthan Royals qualify for the final for the first time since 2008.
Replacement named after Prasidh Krishna and Mujeeb Ur Rahman:
With Prasidh Krishna sidelined, RR have roped in South African spinner Keshav Maharaj as his replacement. Maharaj, an experienced spinner, is yet to play in the IPL. So far, he has played 27 T20Is, 44 ODIs and 50 Tests and has taken 237 wickets in international cricket. He has also picked up 130 wickets in 130 T20s.
“RR has brought him in for his base price of INR 50 Lac,” the IPL press release stated.
On the other hand, the KKR has replaced Mujeeb Ur Rahman with his compatriot Allah Ghazanfar. Mujeeb is sidelined with a sprained right phalanx. He hasn’t played a game since January. In the last auction, KKR had bought it at its base price of Rs 2 crore.
Mujeeb has not played in the IPL since 2021 despite being one of the leading T20 spinners in the world. He made his IPL debut in 2018 for Punjab Kings. In his first IPL season, he took 14 wickets in 11 games while maintaining an economy rate of less than 7.
He has been replaced by Allah Ghazanfar in the KKR team. Ghazanfar has played 3 T20 matches and 6 List A matches so far. KKR has listed him for his base price of INR 20 Lac.
