KKR had a full team, with specialists for each position, and did their job with precision in almost every match to win their first trophy in ten years.
It has been a year and a half for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as they have been in the limelight since the beginning of the year. Firstly, the acquisition of Gautam Gambhir, India’s new head coach, as a mentor grabbed headlines ahead of a record-breaking bid for Mitchell Starc during the IPL 2024 auction.
They formed a solid team and came with all guns blazing during IPL 2024 as they played like a well-oiled machine and were almost flawless. They defeated almost every team that came their way and won their third title.
They have now added another feather to their cap as Indian Sports Honors awarded Kolkata Knight Riders Club of the Year honors at their latest awards show. They were joint champions with Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women, who won the Women’s Premier League (WPL) earlier this year, and Puneri Paltan, who won the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) last season.
Indeed, it is a well-deserved award for the Knight Riders, given what they achieved on the field in the toughest T20 league. They had a full team, with specialists in each position, and they did their job with precision in almost every game to win their first trophy in ten years.
Kolkata Knight Riders look to form another strong team in IPL 2025 auction
Ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, Kolkata Knight Riders were among the two teams that retained as many as six players along with Rajasthan Royals (RR). It shows how strong a core they had and backed them to be good again in another cycle.
They would be greatly disappointed if they let their captain and other vital members in before the mega auction. KKR made some tough decisions as they were tempted to leave out some big names for various reasons.

Therefore, they will need to fill some crucial gaps during the auction, especially in the middle order. This time they will be without the services of Gautam Gambhir, who played a crucial role in helping them play a certain brand of cricket.
However, they still have Chandrakant Pandit who will once again be their head coach. The group of experts has sufficient experience and will seek to prepare a competitive unit again.
