KKR IPL 2025 recruit Spencer Johnson

KKR acquired him for INR 2.8 crore in the IPL 2025 auction.

Australian speedster Spencer Johnson, recruited by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction, bowled an incredible spell today (January 16) in a Big Bash League (BBL) clash between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes.

Even though the competition was a high-scoring affair in which players were taken to the cleaners and constantly punished, Johnson, who plies his trade for Brisbane Heat, managed to maintain the lowest economy rate among all players in the two teams while picking up three wickets too. His signing from KKR for INR 2.8 crore was a testament to his prowess and he eventually finished with match figures of 4-0-26-3.

Talking about the game, after Brisbane Heat achieved a towering target of 202, Johnson’s efforts caused a few hurdles but the Hurricanes managed to steal a win on the last ball of the thriller at the end.

KKR will be happy with Spencer Johnson’s current form

The defending IPL champions will definitely feel that they have invested their money in the right place. Johnson has looked in stellar form currently and is among the top 10 wicket-takers in the current BBL season. The 29-year-old is ranked 8th with his tally of 11 wickets in 6 games, while bowling with an economy of 7.91.

KKR will only hope that Johnson can replicate his wicket-taking skills and help the Purple and Gold in their title defense in IPL 2025.

Also, while KKR had Spencer Johnson and Anrich Nortje as their overseas pacer options, the latter’s latest injury reports have put his availability for IPL 2025 in doubt. In such a case, Johnson will have to shoulder more responsibility and could serve as KKR. ‘X factor’ player in the upcoming edition of IPL.
