Rahul Tripathi was absolutely distraught after missing out on the ongoing first qualifier of IPL 2024 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The right-handed batsman had already scored a fifty and looked set to propel SRH to a big total before his hopes faded in the 14th over. Rahul Tripathi came out to bat in the first over after Mitchell Starc cleanly bowled Travis Head for a duck. In the second over, Vaibhav Arora also dismissed Abhishek Sharma to leave SRH reeling at 13 for 2.

Before the end of the powerplay, SRH lost two more wickets as Starc dismissed Nitish Reddy and Shahbaz Ahmed in successive deliveries to reduce the Hyderabad-based team to 39 for 4. Rahul Tripathi and Heinrich Klaasen then steadied the ship and also settled the foundation for a good total by adding 62 runs in quick time for the fifth wicket.

When Klaasen was dismissed in the eleventh over, SRH were 101 for 5. With nine overs remaining and a well-placed Rahul Tripathi in the middle, SRH looked set to post a good total. However, they suffered a blow in the 14th minute when a miscommunication between Tripathi and Abdul Samad ended the former’s stay in the box.

On the second ball of the over bowled by Sunil Narine, Samad hit the ball towards the left of Andre Russell at backward point. The KKR all-rounder made a good diving stop. Meanwhile, Samad prepared to bowl the single while Tripathi looked at the ball.

Tripathi was stranded in the middle of the field when Russell got up and threw the ball to goalkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who removed the bails. SRH CEO Kavya Maran was left furious to see Tripathi’s exhaustion after a catastrophic mix-up.

The right-handed batsman departed after scoring 55 runs in 35 balls against his former team. After the dismissal, a heartbroken Rahul was seen sitting near the stairs with his head resting on his knees, apparently crying over his dismissal.
