Let’s try to identify three big players that LSG could part ways with before the mega auction.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were among the most consistent teams in their first two seasons, qualifying for the playoffs on both occasions. However, last season did not go as expected, as they were only able to win seven games and finished in seventh position in the points table.
As they prepare for next season, LSG will have to leave out some quality players before the mega auction. They had a strong team, so the decision will be difficult, but they have no choice but to make some bold decisions.
Let’s try to identify three big players that LSG could part ways with before the mega auction.
KL Rahul
Surprising as it may seem, LSG could release their captain KL Rahul ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Despite playing in his preferred position, Rahul could not perform as per expectations and his goal rate was below average in all editions .
There was also a heated argument between him and the owners of LSG during IPL 2024, and reports are rife about bad relations between the two. LSG is unlikely to spend any retention amount on him.

Marcos Stoinis
Marcus Stoinis was one of three players LSG signed before the auction when they reached the tournament in 2022. Stoinis also did reasonably well, contributing with both bat and ball.
However, his auction value may not be close to the retention slabs, so LSG may not use a retention slot for him. If they wish, LSG can use RTM or rebid for it in the auction if its price is still reasonable.
Krunal Pandya
Krunal Pandya was the vice-captain of Lucknow Super Giants and captained the team in the absence of Rahul. However, his performances were not convincing enough to warrant a retention, especially with the current retention slab.
If you enter the auction, your price will not be as high as the hold amount because there will be many options available in your role type in the mega auction. Therefore, LSG can pick it up at a lower price later if it feels the need.
