Mayank Yadav’s participation in the rest of the ongoing IPL 2024 league matches is reportedly in doubt after his latest injury setback. The right-arm pacer suffered a suspected abdominal muscle tear during the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians in Lucknow on Tuesday (April 30).
It was his first game in the ongoing IPL 2024 since April 7, when he had to leave the field after bowling just one against the Gujarat Titans. On that occasion he also had an abdominal problem. Against Mumbai Indians, the pacer bowled 3.1 overs before departing.
Speaking after the match, LSG captain KL Rahul said the pacer’s decision to leave the field was more of a precautionary measure after complaining of pain in the same area that had kept him sidelined for five matches. Rahul also revealed that he advised Mayank Yadav to leave the field after the latter complained of pain.
“He was out of the last game with a slight pain in his side, not a lateral strain, but a slight pain there. After the first ball [of his fourth over]He said the same, ‘thoda dukh raha hai’ [it’s hurting a bit]’. So I said it would be better to go out and not risk the next five balls. He is still young and dear to us, so we have to take care of him,” Rahul said.
However, according to a PTI report, the pacer might miss the remaining league matches of IPL 2024. LSG will play four more league matches and are likely to miss the services of the highly-rated bowler for all the matches. However, the 21-year-old could return to action if LSG qualify for the playoffs.
“Mayank has a tear, but it is more likely to be a grade 1 tear. He will cut it well, but in case LSG qualify for the play-offs, maybe he can play the knockout matches. But it is like hoping against all odds.” hope and right now it is a doubt for the remaining games of the IPL,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by the media outlet.
Mayank Yadav to get fast bowling contract:
While Mayank Yadav will be disappointed with his latest injury setback, he could have done enough to earn himself a BCCI fast bowling contract. In February, the BCCI handed out fast bowler contracts for the first time to Umran Malik, Vidwath Kaverappa, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Yash Dayal, Akash Deep and Mayank will also get one after impressing everyone with his pace in IPL 2024.
The contract will see Mayank come under the supervision of the National Cricket Academy’s sports science and medical team. The NCA will take over the management of the player’s injuries and fitness once the BCCI hands over the contract.
“He will soon be given a bowling contract and once he is in the BCCI Pathways structure, his growth will be systematically monitored. The national selection committee and the Indian team management would like to blood him gradually and ensure that he can maintain his peak fitness. “said the BCCI source.
