Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma praised Uttarakhand pacemaker Akash Madhwal after 5-time Indian Premier League victory (IPL) champions in the IPL 2023 Eliminator.
The IPL Eliminator 2023 was played between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on 24 May.

The Rohit Sharma-led team put on an outstanding all-around show and crushed the Krunal Pandya-led Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs to seal victory.

Batting first they posted 182/8 and while defending the target, Akash Madhwal destroyed the Lucknow Super Giants batting unit with the iconic figures of 5/5. The Uttarakhand pacer also took the Man of the Match award for his heroism.

Speaking at the post-match launch ceremony, Rohit Sharma said that Mumbai Indians (MI) have consistently achieved amazing victories over the years.

“That’s what we’ve done over the years. People don’t expect us to do what we’ve done, but we did it,” she said.

Rohit Sharma further praised Akash Madhwal, saying he knew the pacer had the skills and character to perform on the big stage.
“He (Akash) was part of the team last year as a support bowler, and once Jofra left I knew he had the skills and character to do the job for us. Over the years we have seen many guys come from Mumbai Indians and play for India,” he said.
Rohit Sharma further spoke about the team environment created by the Mumbai Indians to make the young players feel special.

“It is important that they (the youth) feel special and that they feel part of the team, my job is simply to make them feel comfortable in the middle. They are very clear in their roles about what they have to do for the team and that is what you want. As a team we enjoy it (fielding). It’s good to see everyone contributing on the pitch.”
“Coming to Chennai, we knew that the whole team had to come to the party. At Wankhede, you need one or two brilliant performances, but things are different here.”
