
Sri Lanka national cricket team player Maheesh Theekshana has taken a big step forward in the ICC rankings for bowlers in ODIs. This comes after his sensational performances with the ball in the series against the New Zealand national cricket team.
Maheesh Theekshana cracked the top three of the ICC men’s one-day rankings for the first time. The player was at his best with the ball against the New Zealand national cricket team. He picked 7 wickets in the two games and put his team on top.

Theekshana picked four wickets in the first ODI which also included a hat-trick. Sri Lanka National Cricket Team spinner returned with figures of 4/44 in the first ODI. In the second game, he picked three wickets but unfortunately could not help his team win as they lost the series 2-1.
Maheesh Theekshana rose to 663 rating points and is now enjoying the highest ranking of his career in the latest ICC rankings. The Sri Lanka national cricket team is now six points behind leader Rashid Khan (669) and two points behind Indian Kuldeep Yadav (665), the current two best in the world.
Maheesh Theekshana also becomes the 26th all-rounder in ODIs, moving up four places to reach 26th place.
Maheesh Theekshana also moved up four places in the All-Rounder rankings after his contributions with the bat. Spinner moved up four places to 26th. Mohammad Nabi (300) remains in first place ahead of Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza (290).
Apart from Maheesh Theekshana, New Zealand national cricket team pacer Matt Herny also made gains in the ICC rankings for bowlers in ODIs. The fast bowler had nine wickets at an average of 10.33. It rose three places to ninth place with 635 rating points.
New Zealand national cricket team captain Mitchell Santner also climbed. It moved up two spots to No. 15. This comes after it put up decent performances. Asitha Fernando moved up 34 places to equal 97th place after her spell of 3-26 in seven overs.
Babar Azam, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli remain at the top of the ICC ODI rankings for batsmen
In terms of the ICC batting rankings for the ODIs, there hasn’t been much change. Pakistan batsman Babar Azam, with 795 rating points, remains at the top, followed by Indian National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma, who is at number 2 with 765 points. Shubman Gill (763) and Virat Kohli (746) are third and fourth respectively. Everyone has a chance to improve their efforts as the ODI series for Pakistan and India is around the corner, followed by the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka (622) scored just four runs in New Zealand, including two ducks, resulting in a drop of five places in the rankings to 18th. Apart from this, there was no change in the ICC ODI rankings .
