Conrad said that both Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee are currently undergoing intensive conditioning programmes and will not be considered for the upcoming Test series. To add insult to injury, Proteas ace Kagiso Rabada is set to miss an extended period.

Jansen and Coetzee, rising stars of South African cricket

If we talk about Marco Jansen, the South African fast bowler has quickly become one of the most exciting talents in international cricket. Jansen is known for his height (1.93m), his pace and his ability to bowl the ball both ways. He is a formidable force for the Proteas team.

Marco Jansen made his international debut in 2021 and has so far represented South Africa in 13 Tests, 23 ODIs and 13 T20Is. The fast bowling all-rounder has taken 49, 35 and 13 wickets in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively, with 401, 422 and 64 runs to his name.

On the other hand, Gerald Coetzee is also a rising star in South African cricket, and this promising fast bowler is known for his raw pace and aggressive bowling style. Gerald Coetzee’s journey in cricket started at a young age and he gained attention with his performances at the Under-19 level.

His ability to consistently bowl at over 140 km/h and his wicket-taking prowess made him a standout player for South Africa. The right-handed bowler made his international debut in 2023 against West Indies in Tests. He got the chance to play 3, 14 and 6 matches in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively. Gerald Coetzee has so far captured 10, 31 and 8 wickets in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively.

Notably, Gerald Coetzee missed the recent Test series against West Indies due to a side strain, which he sustained during the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024 in the US. Coetzee was playing for the Texas Super Kings (TSK) in the MLC 2024, where he sustained an injury to his left side.
