Former India batsman Mohamed Kaif was left red-faced due to one of his old posts that recently went viral on X. The former batsman has been all over social media in recent times due to his constant bashing of Australia.
It all started after India’s heartbreaking loss against Australia in the ODI World Cup final last month. Team India was the favorite to win the decider after their dominant run in the competition that included an impressive 6-wicket win over Australia in the league stage. However, India failed to do well in the final and lost the game by 6 wickets as the team from Down Under completely outclassed them.
Reacting to the defeat, Mohammad Kaif had undermined Australia’s World Cup triumph by claiming that the Indian team was the best team in the World Cup. Speaking on Star Sports, he had said: “I will never be able to accept that the best team has won the World Cup. The Indian team is the best team on paper.”
As expected, his comments did not go down well with many, including Indian fans. Australia opener David Warner He had also expressed his disappointment over Mohammad Kaif’s statement when he addressed X to write: “I like MK, the problem is that it doesn’t matter what is written. At the end of the day, you must act when necessary. That’s why they call it final. That’s the day that counts and it can go either way, that’s sports.”
Mohammad Kaif left with a blushing face:
After facing backlash, the former cricketer clarified his statement by acknowledging Australia’s World Cup triumph but insisted that India was the best team in the tournament, as he wrote in X: “Facts: It was the day of the Australian final, they won, they are World Cup champions. More data: India widely won 10 games, lost 11, had the best bowlers and batsmen. They were the best team in the tournament. Both facts, on paper and on the field. Relax Australia (sic).”
On Monday (December 4), Mohammad Kaif made another subtle attack on Australia after their loss in the recently concluded T20I series against India. The Men in Blue won the series by a 4-1 margin. Reacting to the series win, Mohammad Kaif wrote: “”Better talent, better skills. This time the best team on the field and on paper won. 4-1”.
While the former batsman’s recent posts and statements divided opinions, an old tweet of his went viral. The tweet left fans amused as Kaif shared a contrasting view on it. He posted the tweet after South Africa’s exit from the 2016 T20 World Cup, writing:
“Disappointing to see one of my first #SA exit early from #WT20. No matter how strong you are on paper, you have to perform that day.”
