Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has consulted an orthopedic sports doctor in Mumbai to address the problems he has been facing with his ankle, according to PTI reports. The fast bowler faced ankle discomfort after the conclusion of the ICC World Cup 2023.
Fans learned about Mohammed Shami’s ankle injury when the BCCI announced the squad for the series against South Africa. His name did not appear on the white ball teams, but it did appear on the test team. In front of his name was a star, which revealed that the pacemaker is currently undergoing medical treatment and its availability is subject to his physical condition.
Mohammed Shami requires medical attention for his ankle condition, which is not an injury issue. The fast bowler is currently in Mumbai for treatment and will then head to the NCA for rehabilitation. Speaking to PTI, a BCCI source stated:
“It’s not exactly an on-field injury. It is an ankle condition that has developed. Shami came to Mumbai to consult doctors. She will also go to the NCA for rehabilitation and recovery work. The national selectors would not have selected him if there had not been a chance for him to get fit in time for the Boxing Day test.”
The severity of Mohammed Shami’s injury is not yet known but the fast bowler is expected to be fit for the series against South Africa. He will play a crucial role for the team and if India have a chance of winning their first series in South Africa, he will be crucial for the team.
Mohammed Shami was last seen in action during the ICC World Cup 2023. He finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets to his name. The fast bowler was one of the main reasons why India reached the final. But unfortunately, it didn’t have a fairytale ending as India lost the final.
