Mohammed Shami is ready for action again, included in Bengal’s chances for the 2024-25 domestic season

The deadline to see Indian national team cricketer Mohammed Shami back in action is about to end. The star player is all set to make his comeback after a long injury during the Ranji Trophy 2025 for his state team Bengal as he might play the first few matches.

According to ESPNCricinfo reports, Mohammed Shami has been included among the 31 probable members for Bengal’s squad for the upcoming domestic season.

There were earlier reports in PTI stating that the fast bowler could feature in Bengal’s first two games against Uttar Pradesh from October 11 and Bihar from October 18.

The target set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly to get Mohammed Shami fully fit ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

There were rumours that the fast bowler might play in the 2024 Duleep Trophy and then make his return to India through the Test series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, starting from September 19.

However, in a new set of reports, it has been reported that the Ranji Trophy will be the window that will allow Shami to make his comeback. After proving his fitness in the domestic circuit, the fast bowler will make his comeback for the Indian National Cricket Team in the New Zealand series, which will be played in October.

Mohammed Shami could also play in the 4-day matches for India A in Australia

The fast bowler might also play the four-day matches for India A in Australia ahead of the main Test series. The A team will play two matches in Australia and it will be a great preparation for Mohammed Shami to get into the rhythm ahead of the important Test series against the Pat Cummins-led side.

Along with Shami, his brother, Mohammed Kaif, also finds a place in Bengal’s likely contenders for the Ranji Trophy. Wriddhiman Saha has also been included. He left Bengal to play for Tripura in domestic cricket last season. However, he is now back for his state team.

Shami has been working hard at the NCA and is making great progress in his recovery from an ankle injury. He is in the final stages of his rehabilitation and also returned to bowling last month after the prolonged injury. The coaches there will also increase his workload.

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been out of action since the conclusion of the ICC World Cup 2023.

He underwent surgery on his right Achilles tendon in February and missed a lot of action for the Indian National Cricket Team, including the 2024 T20 World Cup, which the Men in Blue won.

A few months ago, during a media interaction, Shami himself had stated that he would play a few matches for Bengal before returning to the national team. The fast bowler will be extremely important for the Indian team, especially with the big Test series around the corner.
