Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is all set to become the new Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Mohsin Naqvi is said to be appointed as the new Chairman of the ACC at the board meeting in October-November.

The PCB chairman will replace BCCI secretary Jay Shah as ACC president. Naqvi’s impending appointment follows Shah’s recent appointment as the International Cricket Council (ICC) president.

Reports revealed that this early appointment is part of the ACC’s rotating leadership system, which sees a new president take over periodically. Well, Jay Shah, who previously served as the ACC president for three years and was given a one-year extension earlier this year, has now taken over the global role at the ICC, leaving the position in the hands of whoever wants it.

A Cricket Pakistan report claimed that the decision to appoint Mohsin Naqvi as the ACC chairman was taken during a recent ACC membership meeting, where the board members discussed and agreed on the appointment of the PCB chairman. It will mark the beginning of a new era for the Asian countries.

As the incoming ACC President, Mohsin Naqvi will play a crucial role in overseeing major cricket events in the Asian region, including the highly-anticipated Asia Cup 2025, which will feature a T20 format in India, and the subsequent ODI edition of the tournament scheduled for 2027 in Bangladesh.

“When Jay Shah steps down, the PCB chief will take over as ACC chairman”

The source told PTI: “When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next chairman for a two-year term… When Jay Shah steps down, the PCB chief will take over.”

In addition to his role as PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi also holds the post of Interior Minister of Pakistan. With his upcoming appointment as ACC Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi will have to juggle three important roles, highlighting his vast experience and leadership qualities in various fields.

Earlier, Home Minister Naqvi said that the recent surge in terror attacks in Balochistan was aimed at sabotaging the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit scheduled for mid-October in Pakistan.

Mohsin Naqvi was quoted by the Tribune Express as saying, “We have identified clear links, which show that [the terrorists] They planned to ruin the SCO conference. Many people are distressed. [about the SCO meeting] “So that it doesn’t get organized. Those who recognize Pakistan will welcome them. They are very respectable to us, but those who don’t accept the state and take up arms are terrorists, and we will deal with them.”

The PCB chief was also blamed for Pakistan team’s humiliating 10-wicket defeat against Bangladesh in the first Test in Rawalpindi. Currently, Pakistan and Bangladesh are facing each other in the second and final Test at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

The hosts scored 274 runs in the first innings of the crucial second Test, thanks to fifties from Salman Agha, Saim Ayub and Shan Masood against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.
