MS Dhoni will meet the CSK management before the October 31 deadline.
There has been a lot of speculation lately regarding the future of former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni as the retention deadline for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season approaches.
While recent reports revealed that the CSK management was willing to talk to Dhoni first before taking any kind of decision, MS Dhoni has finally broken his silence on the matter.
“I just want to enjoy the last few years of cricket I get to play,” the former India captain said at a promotional event for Rigi.
“I have to stay fit for nine months to be able to play two and a half months of IPL. I have kept it very simple. I will train for 15, 20, 25 days and then take rest for 15 or 20 days, so it really helps me get into the rhythm,” the former India captain added.
CSK can retain MS Dhoni under new IPL rule
After retiring from international cricket on August 15, 2020, Dhoni now qualifies to be retained as an uncapped player as he has not played an international match for at least five years. This rule was brought back ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 auction and would allow CSK to retain their icon by paying just INR 4 crore, a fraction of their INR 120 crore budget.
Dhoni resigned as captain and Ruturaj Gaikwad took over as his successor just before CSK’s first IPL 2024 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In the 2024 season, Dhoni contributed 161 runs at an impressive strike rate of 220, playing for five-time champions CSK.
