India batsman Sarfaraz Khan is in contention to get the Indian Premier League (IPL) recruits again for the 17th edition of the league. The batsman has been grabbing the headlines ever since he set the stage on fire on his Test debut for India in the Test against England in Rajkot.
According to Anandabazar Patrika reports, as many as three franchises are known to be interested in acquiring the services of Sarfaraz Khan. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) expressed the desire to get the batsman when mentor Gautam Gambhir told the team management to rope in the batsman to strengthen the batting line-up.
Reports also claim that Chennai Super Kings are also interested in signing Sarfaraz Khan for IPL 2024. MS Dhoni is known to have given the green signal to the authorities to make a bid for him. Apart from the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bangalore also wants the batsman in their team.
Sarfaraz Khan was a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore for three IPL seasons between 2015 and 2018. He played decent knocks for the team but later parted ways with the franchise. He represented Delhi Capitals in 2023 but was not sold in the 2023 IPL auction.
Sarfaraz Khan has played 50 matches in IPL between 2015 and 2023. The batsman has scored 585 runs with just one fifty. He also played for Punjab Kings between 2019 and 2021 before joining Delhi Capitals in the league. With all the reports about CSK, KKR and RCB wanting him, it remains to be seen what his future will be in the league.
Sarfaraz Khan was impressive on his debut for India in Test cricket. He scored 68 runs in the first innings when he ran out. He made sure to make the most of the opportunity in the second innings. The batsman hit another half-century and finished with 62 not out in the second Test.
Looks like the perfect No. 6: Michael Vaughan on Sarfaraz Khan
Impressed with Sarfaraz Khan’s heroics, Michael Vaughan praised the batsman for his amazing debut. He pointed out that the batsman is aggressive, plays spin brilliantly and rotates the strike well, making him the perfect No. 6 for India. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he explained:
“I said after the first day that he looks like the perfect No. 6. He is aggressive, plays brilliantly with spin and rotates the strike. So even good balls go for one and two. And he’s hungry for racing. He has a lot of runs in first-class cricket.
When you have done that throughout your career and you get a chance to play for India at Test match level. “He has taken advantage of that opportunity well.”
Sarfaraz Khan will next be seen in action when India plays the fourth Test against England in Ranchi. The match will be played on February 23. India currently leads the series 2-1. The batsman would hope to take a step forward in the next match and seal his place in the team in the longest format of the game.
