THE LOWDOWN

MULTAN SULTANS

  • The last three editions of the Pakistan Super League have seen Multan Sultans reach the final, winning the tournament for the first time in 2021, but then losing their last two finals, both times to Lahore Qalandars.
  • In Mohammad Rizwan and either Dawid Malan or Reeza Hendricks, Multan contains arguably the best opening partnership of the competition and the side is nicely balanced by leg-spinning all-rounder Usama Mir, along with England’s David Willey.

KARACHI KINGS

  • Shan Masood captains Karachi Kings, whose bowling core includes Hasan Ali and Mohammad Nawaz as well as Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams and South African spin-bowler Tabraiz Shamsi.
  • Having led MI Emirates to victory in the International League T20 tournament on Saturday, the Kings will have to wait for veteran all-rounder and T20 legend Kieron Pollard to join the team and it’s a blow for them not to have him available here.

THE PREDICTION

Multan Sultans have a tried and tested formula when it comes to making it to the PSL’s latter stages and this season is expected to be no different. A canny, but experienced bowling attack combined with a batting line-up capable of serious fireworks, Multan will be among the business end of proceedings again in 2024 and are likely to dominate a Karachi Kings team not yet able to field their best XI. With that in mind, back the Sultans to get the better of them.
