In a recent development, a young sensation from Mumbai Indians (MI) received a sudden call-up to the national team for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, scheduled to begin on October 21. The news was confirmed by Cricket. South Africa (CSA) through an official press release.

Popularly known as Baby AB, Dewald Brevis, who was signed by MI for INR 3 crore in the IPL 2022 auction, will now fill the void left by Proteas Test captain Temba Bavuma.

Dewald Brevis, 21, earns his first Test call-up for the Bangladesh vs South Africa Test series after representing South Africa A against Sri Lanka A last month where he scored 49 and 74 in the second four-day match.

Bavuma, on the other hand, has been ruled out of the initial trial after scans revealed a strain of the left triceps muscle.

However, he will travel with the team to Dhaka and continue his recovery under the supervision of the medical team in preparation for the second Test.

In the absence of Bavuma, Aiden Markram will captain the team in the first match of the series.

Lungi Ngidi replaces Nandre Burger for Bangladesh Tests

Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has been selected to replace Nandre Burger, who is unable to participate in the tour due to a lumbar stress fracture. Burger will begin his rehabilitation under the supervision of the Cricket South Africa and World Sports Betting Western Province medical teams.

The team is scheduled to gather for a red-ball training camp at the Pretoria Center of Excellence from October 12-14.
