NDRF rescues Radha Yadav from Gujarat floods ahead of 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup

Heavy rains in Gujarat have led to flooding in many districts and residents are facing a dangerous situation.

Indian cricketer Radha Yadav, who was recently named in the 15-member squad for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, and her family were also trapped in the floods.

Floods in Gujarat have severely disrupted daily life, causing numerous deaths and forcing thousands of people to evacuate their homes.

According to the latest media reports, the Gujarat government is actively involved in relief and rescue operations and more than 17,000 people have been rescued so far.

The Vishwamitri river, which flows through Vadodara, overflowed due to heavy rains, leading to severe flooding in low-lying areas of the city.

The flood situation is critical and many parts of Gujarat, including Vadodara, are facing constant threats of floods due to incessant rains.

In Vadodara, heavy rains caused the Vishwamitri river to overflow, inundating low-lying areas and disrupting local life.

Radha Yadav and her family were trapped in the flood. However, the Indian cricketer and her family were rescued safely by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

On Wednesday, Radha Yadav posted a video on Instagram showing the severe flooding in her area. The video shows how NDRF teams rescued her by using boats to navigate the submerged streets and help the stranded people. The presenter thanked the NDRF for their rescue efforts.

“We are stuck in a very serious situation. Thank you so much #NDRF for rescuing us,” Radha wrote on social media along with the video.

This comes almost a week before the Indian women’s team begins its T20 World Cup campaign against New Zealand on October 4. Harmanpreet Kaur-le’s team will travel to the United Arab Emirates. They are placed in Group A with defending champions Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

Before their opening match against New Zealand, the Indian women’s team will play two warm-up matches against South Africa and West Indies. Radha Yadav is part of the 15-player squad that will participate in the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup in 2024.

For their safety, people should stay at home – Irfan Pathan

Amid the ongoing crisis, former Indian player Irfan Pathan urged residents of Vadodara to prioritize their safety in the face of widespread flooding caused by heavy rains in Gujarat. Pathan advised people to stay indoors for their safety.

“Take care, Baroda. Flooding is widespread so stay home for your own safety,” Irfan wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Several areas of Saurashtra, including Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot and Porbandar, were hit by heavy rains for 12 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted heavy rains in these regions on Thursday. The NDRF, SDRF and Indian Army are actively involved in rescuing people.
