Sports Tak revealed that BCCI secretary Jay Shah held a meeting in Mumbai which was attended by chief selector Ajit Agarkar, Indian captain Rohit Sharma and team coach Gautam Gambhir.
There has been a lot of uncertainty over Rohit Sharma’s availability for the start of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. However, a new update has emerged ahead of the Perth Test, which must have come as a relief to Indian fans.
According to Sports Tak, Rohit is expected to travel to Australia with other members of the Indian team ahead of the tour. The Indian team members will depart in two batches, the first on Sunday (November 10) and the second on Monday (November 11).
Rohit will leave for the tour with the second group on Monday. The Indian captain has informed the relevant authorities that he is available to travel with other members, although it is not certain whether he will participate in the first test in Perth.

Sports Tak also added that BCCI secretary Jay Shah held a meeting in Mumbai which was attended by chief selector Ajit Agarkar, Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, and Gautam Gambhir, the team coach. On the agenda for the match was India’s surprising whitewash against New Zealand at home, their first series loss since 2012 at home.
New Zealand series loss influenced Rohit’s decision
The same source added that a shocking series loss against New Zealand must have influenced Rohit to decide to travel with the team. There is a big gap between the first and second Test against Australia, so if possible, Rohit could appear in the first Test and return to India during the gap before flying to Australia again.
However, there is no certainty in this regard at the moment. But it seems clear that Rohit understands the situation and is keen to stay in the team as long as possible after their embarrassing loss to New Zealand.
India is in a precarious situation regarding its position in the World Test Championship (WTC). The series loss against New Zealand means they need to win at least four matches against Australia to qualify for the final without depending on other results.
Therefore, Rohit’s presence at the top will be important in the impending big series. There will be more news on this situation in the coming days.
