Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers and Nicholas Pooran have rejected the West Indies Cricket Central Contracts for the year 2023-2024. The governing body announced on Sunday (December 19) the men’s and women’s contracts for the upcoming season based on performances during the 2022-2023 season.
Although Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers and Nicholas Pooran rejected the contract, they assured CWI that they would be available for T20Is during the year. In their place, new participants in the contracts also appeared.
Gudakesh Motie, Keacy Carty, Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Alick Athanaze have been included in Cricket West Indies’ central contract list for the year 2023-2024. Apart from them, Zaida James and Sheneta Grimmond were the new additions to the CWI women’s contracts.
West Indies men’s chief selector Dr. Desmond Haynes spoke about the contracts and said that they offered contracts to those who were expected to appear in the T20 World Cup 2024. Talking about the same, he said:
“With a busy year of cricket ahead, across all three formats, we have had several detailed conversations with the two head coaches about the type of cricket they want to play. We are very clear in which direction we want to go.
“The players who have been offered contracts are among those we hope to field, as we look to challenge for the top spot when we host and compete in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 on home soil. We also have away test series in Australia and England; “These are two important assignments, while in the 50-over format we look to build a core of players destined for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.”
